Wastes resulting from pickling, their treatment and disposal
Wastes from the pickling or milling line are characterized by high concentrations of acids, metal salts and suspended solids. Due to the physical nature of these wastes, neutralisation prior to disposal is mandatory. In addition to the cost of neutralisation chemicals for treating pickling wastes, the solids cake that results must also be removed off site for a fee.
In some jurisdictions, specialized disposal of pickling wastes are required due to the presence of HF acid, and toxic metals chromium and nickel, further adding to the costs of disposal. A managed and optimized pickling or milling process with Scanacon reduces the overall amount of waste resulting from the pickling or chemical milling line. Reducing the primary by-products of pickling and milling – metal oxide sludge’s, waste liquor, acid gasses and acidic waste water from rinses – reduces the quantity of hydroxide sludge that results from it’s treatment 40% or greater.
