Process Filtration
Understanding that filtration requirements vary significantly from process to process, Scanacon has developed a number of proprietary filtration technologies; each uniquely designed to provide solids removal over the varying conditions encountered by the acid finisher.
All Scanacon filtration technologies feature:
- high suspended solids removal with low acid loss and low to very low waste-water generation
- superior materials of construction featuring polypropylene (PP) or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) for long life under extreme conditions
- low maintenance requirements without specialty tooling or overhead cranes
- scalable modular design for future expansion
- able to operate in series with an acid recovery system or as stand alone apparatus on the acid process directly
Scanacon Acid Filtration Unit (SAFU)
The SAFU is a basic barrier filtration apparatus designed primarily to operate in series with an acid recovery system on solutions containing a low to moderate solids concentration. The SAFU utilizes a series of PP or PVDF filter sleeves that are cleaned automatically with water as required. Having no cartridges to continually change and dispose, and having very low water requirements for cleaning, the SAFU is a superior alternative to cartridge filtration or sand / media filtration apparatus.
Scanacon Cyclone Acid Filtration Unit (CycloSAFU)
The CycloSAFU is an advanced two-stage filtration apparatus utilizing two filtration methods – centrifugation and cross-flow microfiltration – for acid solutions containing a moderate to high concentration of suspended solids. Designed primarily to operate in series with an acid recovery system, the CycloSAFU may be used as a stand-alone apparatus on the acid process directly when solids removal to extend the useful life of the acid is required. The CycloSAFU is a continuous filtration apparatus, able to maintain high flow rates of filtered solution with low acid loss and waste generation by virtue of its unique two stage design. Employing cross-flow microfiltration, the CycloSAFU is able to provide filtration down to 1 micron and is able to operate on acid streams that renders other filtration systems – such as sand or media filters - virtually inoperable. Following Scanacon’s principles of modular design, the CycloSAFU is available in a standard 3,000 L/hr configuration. Simply adding additional filtration modules expands the capacity of the system to 6,000 L/hr or greater.
ASRA
Scanacon’s ASRA filtration unit can operate on high to very solids processes such as single acid preliminary pickling solutions, where the combination of high solids concentration and fine particle size rapidly blind and clog typical barrier and depth filtration systems.
Designed primarily as a stand-alone apparatus designed to remove high volumes of suspended solids from the finishing process directly, the ASRA is a true “sludge digger”, capable of extending the working life of high suspended solids solutions typical of those encountered in the finishing of hot rolled wrought products and in the de-glassing of extruded tube, where solids removal by sedimentation is both inefficient and impractical.
The ASRA filter is a superior alternative to all filtration technologies typically employed in high solids applications, particularly filter-press. The ASRA filter does not employ moveable plates that require operator maintenance and periodic replacement for safe operation, yet is able to produce a low moisture solids cake for easy handling and disposal.
