Quality
Acid-metal finishing – e.g. pickling, milling, chemical cleaning or passivation – requires consistent process conditions. Variations in any one of key variables of acid concentration, metal concentration, temperature, agitation or time results in variations in the finishing process that can negatively effect the finish quality.
Scanacon offers stainless and specialty alloy producers, chemical millers and fabricators the opportunity to achieve consistent product quality by eliminating process variations in their acid-metal process. For stainless steel picklers, defects such as excessive rugosity or grain-boundary defects resulting from over or under pickling can be significantly reduced. For titanium cast or forged parts manufacturing, unpredictable-milling rates resulting from poor control over the bath can result in over-milling and scraping expensive parts.
Gaining control over the pickling process eliminates unwanted variations in the variables that govern the pickling or milling process; acid concentration, metal concentration, temperature and circulation rate. By achieving a stable process, the probability of under or over pickling or milling is reduced, thereby improving product quality and the necessary for re-working or scraping valuable material.
