Advanced two-stage filtration system

The ASRA-SAFU is an advanced two-stage filtration system, using two proven filtration methods – ASRA sludge removal and cross-flow microfiltration. The ASRA-SAFU is a continuous filtration system, capable of delivering high volumes of filtered acid solution with very low acid loss and waste-water generation.

Capable of handling high total suspended solids feeds that render sand or media filters virtually inoperable, the ASRA-SAFU can operate on mixed HNO3-HF processes at temperatures up to 60°C, delivering a filtrate quality of 1 micron.

Ideal for rolled products

The ASRA-SAFU is suitable for HNO3-HF processes demanding greater flow and solids removal from hot-rolled products or from cold-rolled products where the concentration of suspended solids are higher than typically found in cold-rolled finishing applications. ASRA-SAFU is ideally suited for finishing of flat rolled, tubular goods and for long products.

Best of two worlds – ASRA + CycloSafu

Taking efficiency to a whole new level, Scanacon’s CycloSafu remains the only filtration technology in the world that combines two proven filtration techniques for acid-solids separation from acid finishing processes.

Combining the efficiency and high solids removal capacity of the proven ASRA technology with the high flow design of the CycloSafu, ASRA-SAFU takes acid-solids separation to a new level of efficiency –reducing acid losses from the previous generation by more than 90 percent.

How does it work?

ASRA-SAFU replaces the CycloSafu hydrocyclones and sludge tank with a single stand ASRA, removing large particles from the feed acid and returning it to the system’s recirculation tank. The large particles form a dense filter-cake on the surface of the ASRA membrane that increases the removal efficiency of smaller particles, improving overall filtration quality and solids removal.

Cleaning of the ASRA is automatic and key to its high efficiency. Prior to water cleaning, air is used to remove residual acid from the filter-cake. Expanding the membrane breaks the filter-cake free from the surface, where the solids may be disposed of in either a dry or slurry form, depending on customer requirements.

Choose basic or optional functionality

The single stand ASRA is a compact version of Scanacon’s proven full scale ASRA system used for solids control by stainless and speciality alloy producers throughout the world today.

“Sludge Booster” functionality is available as an option and utilizes the extra solids removal capacity of the single stand ASRA on the process tanks directly, thereby reducing the downtime, labour and safety liabilities associated with manual cleaning and disposal of accumulated solids.
