High consumption and loss of acids
Although H2SO4, HNO3 and HF are consumed in the pickling and chemical milling process, a certain proportion – in some cases 50% or more – are wasted, lost from dumping to control suspended solids, dissolved metals and drag-out into the rinses. This high percentage of acids that are wasted significantly increases the total costs of acids necessary for operating a pickling or milling line.
There is 30 years experience behind the claim “There is much more to acid management than just acid recovery systems”. Scanacon offers the stainless and specialty alloy producer the opportunity to reduce the total amount of acids used for production through a number of strategies. Establishing ideal process conditions where pickling and milling are most efficient and integrating equipment to monitor and maintain the process is the initial step. Installing continuous filtration and acid recovery to minimize acid loss is the second step towards an efficient and economic pickling and milling operation.
